Hi! I’m Clare, and I’m a designer.

I started building websites when I was young and learnt how to do basic HTML in the early 2000s. Since then I honed my craft and did a number of computing courses which had units on website design. I inevitably went to university to study web design — which I passed.

I learnt several things throughout my time on that course. The first assignment was all about following instructions and meeting the brief. I was one of only 2 out of 20 students who passed this unit because I managed to successfully follow any and all instruction. Surprised? I was! From there we learnt the basics of design, typography, colour (theory and spaces), various tools and how to professionally use them (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator/Freehand, [since then I’ve learnt FireWorks too]).

We also had to learn XHTML, CSS and any other languages we felt relevant (through a self-managed learning plan). This included PHP and JavaScript. We also had a particular emphasis on standards-compliance, accessibility and the ethical aspects of web design.
